Rogue Librarians

Turning the Page on Dangerous Books

Books Breaking Bad and Causing Trouble (by ArcheanArt)

Headlines screamed out at me as I recently scanned the news. Thirty-nine mass shootings occurred in the USA during the first twenty-four days of January. A quick approximation of these numbers means about three mass shootings occurred every two days. This bad news followed on the heels of three back-to-back mass shootings on the West Coast. Then I spied a news article on rogue librarians.

Legislatures in several States have passed or attempted to pass legislation to counter the surge in dangerous and diabolical librarian activities. These devious activities will be punishable by fines and even a year in prison. I initially pictured librarians charging through their building’s front doors and randomly beating people on the sidewalk with large, hardback books. It turns out their offenses are worse. Rogue librarians are evidently loaning out books to children.

Holy crap, I thought. Who would ever think about giving books to children? What’s this world coming to? But it seems that clever State Representatives have quickly come to grips with the thirty-nine mass shootings in twenty-four days and moved on to more important and pressing threats to our citizens. I can only envision that these well-thought-out laws on how to imprison librarians will lead to a Librarian Tip Line.
